Retha Henderson, Halls Ferry Director

Welcome to our daycare in Bellefontaine Neighbors! Mary Margaret at Halls Ferry Rd accepts children ages six weeks to 12 years old. We are open Monday through Friday from 6am to 6pm. We are proud sponsors of the TEACH MO scholarship program and currently have 3 staff members on the scholarship attending college, and 4 total in the Early Care Education degree program.

Activities

Our infant rooms provide nurturing care for our youngest children. We supply our babies an iron fortified formula, baby cereal and baby food at no extra cost. (Breast milk is welcomed!) All of Mary Margaret Day Care infants have tummy time on a daily basis—tummy time is very important for a baby to develop strong head, neck and shoulder muscles and promote certain motor skills. Additionally, we practice Safe Sleep policy as set forth by the Department of Health.

Our semi-toddlers learn parallel play, simple art and sensory activities. These little ones love to dance, sing songs, read stories and perform finger-plays. Toddlers learn to sit at a table on chairs and sleep on cots instead of cribs. Group activities start at this age group. We begin showing them to how play together versus parallel play. Sharing is a daily lesson at Mary Margaret Daycare. All our infants and toddlers receive a daily report outlining how their day went.

Our preschool program begins at two years old, with structured activities, hands on learning, as well as free choice time. We have a letter, number, color and shape we focus on each week. Potty training begins in our two year old room. Our teachers offer a fun loving learning environment and are very open to our parents for suggestions, comments, and questions.

As they move-up into the three year old room, their class time becomes more structured. Our teachers will teach tracing letters, work on recognition and sounds of each letter as well as colors, numbers, and shapes. Much of the day is dedicated to hands on learning happening in this room. They will work in centers and small groups as well.

Our Pre-k class continues working on letters, blending of sounds, learning sight words and spelling. Turning number recognition in to counting, adding and subtracting. We begin to fuse science activities, including tending to our ever growing Incredible Edible Sensory Garden. Occasional field trips happen in this classroom. The teacher communicates through email with the parents, keeping the line of communication open.

Mary Margaret Day Care additionally offers a before and after school age program. We receive bus transportation from several local St. Louis Public Schools in north county. Children are provided breakfast and a snack. We offer an awesome summer program filled with exciting field trips, which are both educational and fun!

For our full-time students we offer breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack. All staff are CPR/First Aid/AED certified.
